The hoot of the Barred Owl
is one of our local sounds
that make night a magical
time in the country.

The distant howl of the coyote is another night
sound in Van Zandt County.**

Frogs in the pond, as well as tree frogs, provide
part
of the nightime chorus.

Wood Ducks take up residence at times on our
pond near Canton.

The sound of the grey fox can be heard in the early evening
sometimes. They are about the size of a medium sized
dog and make a puppy-like bark.**

Some of our smallest and most numerous animal residents are
red squirrels. They love the many oak and hickory trees
on our land. We have even spotted some rare
black squirrels at
play. **

The Woods are a birdwatcher's
paradise! We see goldfinches, cardinals,
blue birds, nuthatches, woodpeckers, mourning doves, whip-poor-wills,
and hummingbirds (in season), in addition to a myriad of birds
we have not yet accurately identified.
Our feeders are busy places!
