This was the Second and most beautiful of the
Courthouses in Van Zandt County. It was
replaced by the current building erected in 1937(WPA Project). The original
was
designed by James Riely Gordon and built in 1894.
If you didn't visit Historic Van
Zandt County in her Sesquicentennial Year
of 1998...join us in now in the new millennium.
The city of Canton, county seat of
Van Zandt County, is the home of First Monday
Trade Days which brings 100,000 to 200,000 shoppers to the area, the Friday
through Sunday prior to the First Monday of every month.*
First Monday Trade Days area has
grown to include places for 6,000 vendors on the Trade
Day Grounds on Hwy 19, and Old Mill Marketplace, The Village, The Mountain and
the "Dog Patch", all on Hwy. 64, around the corner from the main grounds.
From "one man's junk",
to the best of arts, crafts, jewelry, collectibles, and furnishings...
First Monday Trade Days has it all!
If you visit First Monday, think
about this:
You come to the country (Van Zandt
County) because it's a
better way to shop...
Why not live in the country because it's a better way to live!
There are many reasons we chose to
move to Van Zandt County. Among them is the
fact that there are 2,299 people per square mile in Dallas County, while there are
50 per square mile in Van Zandt County.**

Depending on location, you
can buy five acres in the country for about the price of a 60' by 120'
lot in the suburbs of Dallas County. Larger tracts have even better prices and many
existing
homes can be purchased for the cost of a comparable home in Dallas County, but with
acreage around you instead of neighbors.
Van Zandt County has more to offer
that just Trade Days. The cities in the area, like Canton, offer
excellent schools, good home-cooking restaurants, motels and bed and breakfast type
accommodations,
great shops on an old fashioned courthouse square and friendly people. Other towns
in the area include
Wills Point "Bluebird Capital of Texas", Edgewood, Grand Saline, Van, Ben
Wheeler and others.
Van Zandt County is the gateway to the beauty of East Texas,
yet it is only an hour drive from Canton to Dallas and just a half hour to Tyler.
Next time you come to First
Monday, stop in to see us. We are right on I-20
(Service Road--South Side) at the Hwy 19 exit to First Monday Trade Days.
Let us show you why you should make a move from
"Life in the Fast Lane...to Life in the Slow Lane"
*Trade Days officially begins
on Thursday of each month, but most vendors do not arrive until Friday, and Saturday
& Sunday have the most vendors. If Monday is a holiday, Trade Days goes thru
Monday.
